VJ Trail, San Rafael Swell

While searching for a post on the VJ Trail in the San Rafael Swell, I realized that I had never posted this ride. The VJ Trail is a lesser known trail among the popular "color trails" in the Southern San Rafael. It connects the Orange Trail back to the wash it starts in and makes a nice loop. One benefit of this is you bypass the lethargic Blue or Green Trail and the road back to the parking area.

Waterfall Trail San Rafael Swell

The Waterfall Trail is a fun single track trail located in the South side of the San Rafael, also known as the Temple Mountain Area of the swell. This trail can be ridden from the top or from the bottom. Either direction provides a few slightly difficult obstacles and it's hard to say which direction is better or more or less difficult, but if I had to say,

Knolls OHV Recreation Area

Knolls is home to nearly 36,000 acres of sand dunes, hills, and mud flats. It's close proximity to Salt Lake City makes it a very popular destination. Knolls is located 80 miles West of Salt Lake along I-80 before reaching the Bonneville Salt Flats. It is pretty easy to find once you get close, just follow the signs taking exit 41. Clicking this link will take you there from your location using google.

Mountain View Wyoming Badlands

This riding area just outside of Mountain View Wyoming, commonly referred to as the badlands is a favorite of ours for sure. The terrain is very similar to Caineville Utah but at nearly 7,000 feet in elevation the temperature is normally around 10 degrees cooler than Utah valley locations, and it's much closer for us.

Red Slot to Cow Freckles Dirt Bike Trail, Moab Utah

This was one of those rides that just kind of came together as I was exploring the area near Ten Mile Canyon. We were camped at White Wash Sand Dunes as we often do, and I set out by heading SW up the wash to the Kid’s East Trail that exits the wash. The route I took was an awesome ride, although kind of pieced together from a number of trails.

Poison Spider Dirt Bike Trail Report Moab Utah.

The Poison Spider Trail in Moab is one of the “must do” trails in the area. It’s not overly difficult and yet maintains a good tempo and doesn’t get too boring with a good amount of obstacles to entertain. You will see others on this trail as it is popular with jeeps and mountain bikers as well as dirt bikers.

Amasa Back "Cliffhanger" Dirt Bike Trail Ride, Moab Utah

The Cliffhanger, or as many call it the Amasa Back Trail, has been one of my favorites for a long time. I first rode this trail on a mountain bike, then in our rock buggy, and finally on a Dirt Bike. I still remember the first time riding it, stopping at an overlook and talking to some dirt bikers

Caineville Dirt Bike Riding, Swingarm City

Caineville/Swingarm City, more commonly known as Factory Butte has been one of our all time favorite riding areas for our family over the years. Freedom to roam and ride over a variety of terrain along with the open camping areas and lack of fees and facilities allow a unique experience with riding for almost anyone.

Fixit Pass to Devil's Racetrack ATV Loop, San Rafael Swell

Another very popular loop in the San Rafael Swell, the Fixit Pass to Devil's Racetrack offers more great scenery that you would expect in the Swell along with a few challenging rock sections and great sites to visit along the way such as Indian Pictographs and a couple arches including the massive Slipper Arch.

Ben Lomond Peak, Willard Peak Single Track Dirt Bike Trail

The Ben Lomond Peak Trail ride is a true classic. It has a good mix of terrain and outstanding views as you ride through the trees to the narrow ridges over smooth winding trails to gnarly rocky switchbacks. The numerous exposed narrow sections of the trail really get your attention in spots.

Richard's Hollow, Card Canyon, Steel Hollow Loop

The Richard's Hollow Dirt Bike Trail is located in Hyrum Canyon, South of Logan Utah. This loop consists of 3 separate Single Track trails linked together to make a loop. Any of these trails could be done individually or some pairing can be done to do an out and back such as Richard's Hollow to Card Canyon and back. The loop we did required a short ride on the main Logan Canyon paved road.

Enduro Loop Dirt Bike Single Track Trail, Green River

The Enduro Loop near White Wash Sand Dunes is a single track trail that has a good mix of terrain. We usually stage from White Wash Sand dunes and ride the trail starting at the wash, but since the trail intersects the road twice before reaching White Wash it may make more sense to stage from one of the other 2 "trail heads" if you are just riding this trail for the day.

Five Miles of Hell Trail, San Rafael Swell

The name of this trail really is Five Miles of Hell, and it lives up to it's name. This is an extreme single track trail made by dirt bikes, for dirt bikes. It travels mostly over slickrock but frequently drops into deep sand washes that must be climbed out of again and again. Before doing this trail, make sure you are ready for a challenge.

Eagle Canyon, Devil's Racetrack Trail San Rafael Swell

This is one of the more popular ATV and dirt bike loops in the San Rafael Swell. It is a scenic ride with multiple places to stop and take in the sites. Highlights of the trail are Lone Warrior Pictograph, Swasey's Cabin, Eagle Arch, I-70 bridges, and the views from Eva Conover Road and Devil's Racetrack.

Dead Cow Wash Dirt Bike Trail, White Wash Dunes Area

This trail is a true classic. Dead Cow Wash, aka "The Luge" is a favorite among many including myself. This trail is located near White Wash Sand Dunes which is the staging location for this trail. Depending on your preference there are two large parking areas near the sand dunes. The sand dunes are a great place to camp and is an open play area to ride.

Brian's Trail To Dead Cow Wash Loop, White Wash Dunes

One of our favorite areas to ride is White Wash Sand Dunes between Green River and Moab Utah. It has open riding in the dunes, many trails surrounding them and plenty of space to camp. Two trails that we ride often are Brian's and Dead Cow Wash. Brian's is a good one to warm up on and starts at the end of the wash which in itself is a fun must do ride if you visit White Wash Dunes.

San Rafael Swell Dirt Biking Orange, Red, Blue Trails

The San Rafael Swell trails offer unbelievable scenery, technical obstacles, fast washes and a great variety of terrain. The Orange, Red and Blue Trails are located on the South or Temple Mtn. side of the Swell. Our plan was to start near the turn off to Goblin Valley State Park, ride up North Temple Wash and ride the Orange and Red Trails.
